We take a breath.

  • Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail—a restored 87-mile section of the canal’s original towpath. Check out the historic locks along the way.
  • The Ledges at Virginia Kendall—ancient sandstone formations create a dramatic and dog-friendly spot for hiking. Catch the sunset from the Overlook. For more ledges, check out our list.
  • The Inn at Brandywine Falls—Overlooking a 67-foot waterfall, the inn was built in 1848 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. CNN listed it among its favorite park lodges.
  • The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad runs between Akron and Independence to the north. Download the Train Tracker app for an audio tour as you ride. Bring a bike on board, hop off and take on the trains.
State and local parks have their own charms.
The Portage Lakes, with their recreational, restaurant and entertainment offerings, have a vacation vibe all year. The area is anchored by a state park that has, among many other attractions, an 18-hole disc (Frisbee) golf course.
You can fish, canoe, swim, kayak, stargaze, birdwatch or just hang out on a dock with a cocktail.

Local parks offer all sorts of activities, no matter if you want thrills or chills. Summit Metro Parks, Medina County Parks, and Portage County Parks extend the bounty of green.
