- In 2018, Akron Children’s Hospital was nationally ranked in four specialties. The hospital has two Northeast Ohio campuses and 60 locations in all.
- Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center was nationally ranked in one specialty and top performing in several others. (The Cleveland Clinic was ranked among the best overall, second only to the Mayo Clinic).
- Summa Health, the largest employer in Summit County, is investing $350 million in new building and improvements. It has more than 1,300 licensed beds and 7,000 employees. It consists of City Hospital, St. Thomas Hospital, Summa Rehab (all in Akron) and Barberton Hospital.
- Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls is the only physicians-owned hospital in Northeast Ohio.
- The Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center, a longtime ambulatory care center in Montrose, is currently building a 60-bed hospital near its existing facility to focus on orthopedic wellness.
- NEOMED (formerly the Northeastern Ohio College of Medicine) is a joint program of area universities and hospital systems. It has a B.S./M.D program that allows students to get both degrees in six years. It also has a College of Pharmacy and College of Graduate Studies. The campus is in Portage County’s Rootstown.
